Learning online in Zimbabwe  can be exciting as it gives you as the learner more privacy and comfort as you learn from the place of your own choosing. To start an online class requires for one to have a number of things in place. Think of this as an Online Learning Checklist.

Online Learning Checklist

Your checklist must have the following things

1. Internet

To start off make sure you  have a fairly good internet connection that allows you to be able to have videos or be able to browse the different areas of your online lesson. A good internet connection allows you to feel the real time online learning if there is a tutor so that you avoid interruptions  such as buffering or restarts that may occur.

We would recommend an internet package which is either a private-WiFi or your home WiFi. Before you start, make sure you have a balance in your account of at least 1 Gigabyte to be on the safe side in case you are doing 1-2 hours of a lesson.

2. Private Room

As you start your online lessons you do not want to be disturbed or to have your surroundings disturbing the other people in the class or the tutors. A good private spot which will not have interruptions is good. If you have to, make preparations in advance and advice your house mates that you will be having a lesson so that during your lesson time you have minimal disturbances.

3. Power up your Computer

Have a good power source connection so that your computer does not switch off. There is nothing as irritating for you to have to power up after your computer has shutdown. If you are using a laptop make sure that the battery is full or that you are connected.

4. The Required Application

Online lessons can be done using a different number of applications. This can range from Zoom,  Skype, Teams, and much more. A day before your lessons ensure that you  have installed the correct application and that you can connect.

It is not just enough to have the right application but also to learn about how to use the application. Common features to know include

  • Joining with audio
  • Joining with video
  • Chatting section on application
  • Screen sharing on application
  • Attachment of documents
  • Raising your hand features on the application

You do not want to be the odd one who now needs to start learning when  the lesson is going on well.

5. Coffee

It’s rude to start eating lunch during a lesson especially if it is a video lessons and everyone can see you. Instead a cup of tea, coffee or drink which is not distracting is more acceptable. Have it ready instead of starting to look for one 20 minutes into the lesson.

Summary

It does not take much to experience a good online lesson. Always be ready after a few sessions you will be a pro and all things will come naturally to you. Online lessons are very liberating and offer you more comfort so start today.
