Leave Management

Leave is one of the most personal experiences for any employee and is looked upon with keen interest. The payroll pay slip provides the employee with an insight with regards to the provision of it.

Leave provided in Zimbabwe will differ as provided however, one still needs to know them.

Lets us explore the labour Act of Zimbabwe as shown below

1.1        Sick Leave

1.2        Vacation Leave

1.3        Special Leave

1.4        Public Holidays

1.5        Maternity Leave

1.6        Leave Notes for the Payroll Administrator

Below are the notes that one has to take note of when running a payroll or faced with leave issues

  1. If an employee has used up their maximum sick leaves days, a further 90 days can be granted at Half Pay which is supported by a doctors certificate (Implication on Payroll: Half Pay)
  2. Termination may occur where an employee exceed the 180 days in one year hence termination procedures in the payroll may apply (Implication on Payroll: Termination Package)
  3. Am employee may be granted vacation leave with no pay where there are no vacation leave days accrued (payroll must process no pay for those days) (Implication on Payroll: Leave with no Pay)
  4. An employee who consents to work on public holidays shall be paid no less than twice their current remuneration for the normal working day ((Implication on Payroll: Minimum Double Pay on Days worked)

The payroll system in use must therefore enable the Payroll Administrator to calculate for the different leave implications.

1.7        Accrued Leave Days

The vacation days can accrue to 90 days and have financial obligation to the employee as they are entitled to those days.  The Payroll Administrator must ensure that the liability report is ready for management to know their financial obligation.
